Two Texans Plan Their Dream Mountain Wedding in Durango
Kelli & Jacob | June 13th
From the bride…
WHY DURANGO
We visit Colorado often and as a result, we both love Colorado and that is where Jacob proposed! It’s beautiful, the weather was amazing, and the people are so nice.
THE STYLE
I wanted glamorous but still wanted to maintain a relaxing mountain vibe. I’m from Texas so I incorporated a few country aspects to our mountain/ woodsy theme. I also wanted to keep the day simple and elegant.
THE PLANNING
I used Durango Weddings Magazine and it was very helpful for finding local vendors and getting great ideas.
FIRST LOOK
Our first look was definitely one of my favorite moments. We decided we wanted to do a first look because we wanted to see each other for the first time in private so we wouldn’t have to hide our emotions (Jacob thought he was going to cry). It turned out, I was the one already tearing up when I was walking towards him on that beautiful bridge. When he turned around, he teared up as well and we immediately hugged. I was so happy we chose to do the first look because it was such a special moment to see each other and be able to relax a little before the actual ceremony.
THE CEREMONY
My stepdad and my brother walked me down the aisle. My dad passed away 5 years ago and I’m very close with both my stepdad and my brother so I wanted to include them both! In a way, my dad was represented by my brother.
Walking down the aisle was one of my favorite memories.
SEATING CHART
We made a table seating chart out of an old window Jacob got from an old house he was remodeling.
TABLE DECOR
Jacob hand-cut birch logs to make the name card holders and cut aspen slices for the candles to be placed on.
THE CAKE
Our cake was designed to look like an Aspen tree.
LOOKING BACK
I would make it last longer if I could, everything went by way too fast!
ADVICE
Don’t stress over too many details- you won’t even notice on your big day and I bet most guests won’t either! Be sure to take a step back and soak it all in and enjoy the day (and the planning process!)
