A Love Stronger than Fire
Krista & Zach | June 30, 2018
From the bride: We’re both outdoorsy people so having our wedding outdoors was very important to us. We both enjoy the mountains so much, we moved across the country together to start a life in Durango. Nearly all of our guests were from out of town, so we hope we gave them a good exposure to Durango to keep them coming back! All in all, our wedding day truly exceeded our expectations.
Durango Weddings Magazine was such an inspiration for us, especially since we were new to the area at the time. I loved looking through past editions and seeing pictures to get great ideas for our wedding, and what vendors we might look into. It was also extremely helpful when we weren’t sure if we could have our wedding at Glacier due to the 416 fire.
We made personalized ski run signs directing people to our reception and ceremony.
The ceremony was at the Mountain Clubhouse at the Glacier Club. We fell in love with its unique set up. We had immediate family seated on the tee box and the rest of our guests on the balcony of the building.
I walked down the aisle with both of my parents-because they both raised me and helped me become the woman I am today.
Since my wedding dress had pockets, I kept my vows in them, and as I was about to read mine off, I said “I’ve got pockets too” and the crowd went wild! It was one of my favorite parts of the day.
We had our best friend as our officiant, and he did a fantastic job. It was a short and sweet ceremony, and I will truly cherish our memories from that day.
We had the reception at the Valley Clubhouse at the Glacier Club. This was the perfect combination of inside and outside, which made for a nice relaxing dinner, and an appropriately rowdy dance party that evening. Plus, the set up allowed us to easily mingle with our guests.
My favorite reception memory was the dancing! People were dancing before dancing even really got started! Everyone was enjoying themselves. The ceremony was for Zach and me, and the reception was for all of our guests that traveled and have loved and supported us. And we felt like we threw them a pretty good party.
My dad also won the dance floor with dancing to ‘The Love Shack’ with all the women.
Looking back, we laughed and loved the whole day. Everyone always says something goes wrong on your wedding day, but we didn’t feel it! Perhaps it was all out of our system with worrying so much over the fire, that once we knew we had our original venue and vendors-and each other, it didn’t matter.
Our guestbook was an old pair of skis that my parents gave us. We have them hanging on a wall in our home and love looking at them!
Wedding planning is going to be stressful but enjoy it when you can! I look back fondly on our planning days. Also, visit as many venues to know what fits your style-even if you don’t think you’d like it/can afford it.
THE WEDDING TEAM
Venue & Food: The Glacier Club. We loved this venue and the team. Carmen was our wedding planner, and she took care of us and anticipated our needs before we even knew them! I would give this venue and the team a 5-star rating for sure. Carmen was fantastic, and I’d like to keep in contact with her because she gets stuff done.
DJ: Mr Soul Entertaiment -100% recommend. Steve played appropriate music throughout the evening, he kept the flow moving, and was overall a joy at the event. Steve made the party go from great to exceptional. I would recommend him for any celebration. He even sang a few James Brown songs, and sounded amazing!
Honeymoon Location: Road trip! We were totally spontaneous on where we went each day. Our general idea was up the coast of California, but we got to do so many things we hadn’t even planned to do! It was a wonderful honeymoon.
