A Bohemian Festival Themed Wedding in Durango

Kaitlin & Dean | July 30th

From the bride: We live in Fort Collins, but absolutely love the town of Durango with all the scenery and surrounding activities that southwest Colorado has to offer. We first visited Durango in 2013 and had made a few visits back, before we decided that it was the ideal wedding location for us.  We decided on a Bohemian mountain wedfest theme. Some of our favorite things are mountains, good music, food, drinks and parties with our closest friends and family! So what better than a festival themed wedding in the mountains. We chose a color palette of dusty blue, sherbert orange, rose quartz and sea glass green.

We wanted a festival style invitation so a friend painted Dean and I,  Lucy (our VW camper), the venue, the band, and our three dogs. It was amazing, personable and so us!

We had our ceremony in an intimate setting in the woods with the La Plata River as the backdrop. We were married under a beautiful aspen arbor with wildflower wreaths and draped garlands. Our band did an acoustic set and played the background and processional music while our close friend officiated the wedding. It was the most gorgeous setting for an evening ceremony.

After the ceremony ended, everyone followed us on a short nature trail walk through the woods to the event center. Along the way, we had rustic framed photos of us tied up to the trees. On the event center lawn, we had a full band and cocktail hour setup with lawn games under the huge Cottonwood trees.

Our 1988 Volkswagon Westfalia Vanagon camper van, Lucy, was our photo booth. She was looking SUPER, all decked out in wedding décor and the perfect photo booth for our guests. Everyone had a blast taking pictures in it… especially all the kids!

ADVICE

Have fun! Don’t sweat the small stuff, no one, seriously, no one will notice if anything is missing or goes wrong, except you. At the end of the day, you will still be married, so don’t let anything distract you from your beautiful, memorable day. Also, make sure to set aside some brief time with your husband/wife after the ceremony and during the night…. 5 minutes here, a few minutes there…. to step back and take a moment to appreciate it all together. It goes by so fast!
