An Adventure Wedding in the San Juan Mountains
Niki & Andrew | Durango, Colorado
From the bride…
Our wedding day was magical – and so much fun! We both wanted to feel fully present in the moment and therefore limited the amount of hoopla and pressure that accompanies a traditional (or large) wedding. We chose an outdoor setting, accessible only through off-roading. We knew we wanted to go backpacking for our honeymoon night and sleep under the stars!
We hired our photographer/videographer before getting engaged! That’s how bad I wanted Kara Cavalca! {more}
THE DRESS
With layers upon layers of shimmering fluff, I felt like a princess in my dress yet totally comfortable and ready to adventure in my Chacos.
FAVE CEREMONY MEMORY
Being overwhelmed with emotion and spontaneously diving into Andrew’s arm and bawling after saying our vows, and just having those couple minutes of silence to experience the moment before proceeding with the ceremony and pronouncements.
After enjoying a picnic dinner and dancing, we strapped on our backpacks and headed off hiking into the sunset to spend our honeymoon night camping by a lake in the mountains!
OUR ADVICE
- Forget tradition – this is YOUR day!
- Hire the best photographer you can afford – pictures are the thing you’ll have forever.
- Minimize where you can so you can focus on what truly matters to you!
