A Dreamy Spring Wedding at Ridgewood
Lindsay & Jason | June 1st
WHY DURANGO
We love the scenery, feel, and people of southwest Colorado. We had several family and friends traveling and wanted to provide them with something unique and cozy. We also liked that Durango had all the activities we like: biking, hiking, rafting, jeeps! We knew our friends and family would love it just as much as we do! Southwest Colorado has so much history, and the land is so beautiful!
THE VENUE
From the moment I saw the lawn at Ridgewood Event Center, I could already feel the sun on my face and the wind in my hair. I like the sense of freedom and openness of the meadow. The backdrop of the mountains in the distance was just enough to make us feel tucked into the hills and tall grass.
THE DESIGN
We wanted to complement nature with organic, natural, elegant, and simple details. We also knew we had to include our dogs as we could not picture our wedding without them.
THE FLORALS
I wanted only things that appear in nature or your garden. I didn’t want anything too structured. I grew up with my parents and grandmother having a garden. I wanted garden roses, cornflowers, gardenias, peonies…anything in season.
THE FLOWER GIRLS
We decided to not have a wedding party. We wanted our friends to be able to enjoy the day and use their time as a vacation and relax. Instead, we had our nieces and nephews be our flower girls and ring bearers. They mean so much to us and we wanted them to be a part of our day. We are both close to our siblings and their spouses. We think of them as friends that we are lucky to call siblings.
THE CEREMONY
Our officiant is a dear friend, and he did a superb job of writing a ceremony that was unique to us. He added in special stories that no one else would have taken the time to find out. All of our guests were invited into the words and laughed and cried during the ceremony.
My favorite décor detail was the flowers.
ADVICE
Do what you want to do, it’s not a competition.
THE WEDDING TEAM
Venue & Lodging: Ridgewood Event Center at Blue Lake Ranch. Amazing communication and organization. Our guests are still raving about Blue Lake and want to go back!
Floral Designer: April’s Garden. They just “got it.” They understood my aesthetic and thought outside of the box by including an array of different flowers. I loved the natural elegance of all the florals.
