Jordan & Oige | June 3, 2017
From the bride: Oige and I met in Durango and there was no question that we were going to have our wedding in Durango. We moved to California about a year before the wedding so it was slightly like a destination wedding for us, which was fun. Our wedding style was very simple but elegant. I had my heart set on a small number of guests to keep it as intimate as possible.
We did a first look with the wedding party watching us.
We held the ceremony in a small grass field with the river and mountains in the background. The most amazing moment during the ceremony was when Oige surprised me with a special ring. My aunt had passed away years ago and all the girls in the family received a ring made of hers and it was something we all treasured. I was planning on just using this ring as my wedding band. Oige and my mom managed to get a duplicate of the ring without me knowing. At the end of the ceremony, the officiant announced that there was a special ring. At that moment all my bridesmaids (sister and cousins whose mother it was) were overcome with emotion. It was the most beautiful surprise and one of the best memories of the wedding day.
The highlight of the night was the Irish dancing. Oige’s best friends from Ireland came all the way over to be his best men at the wedding. Once the music came on and everyone was on the dance floor, the show began.
My advice would be to enjoy every single day with your fiancé. Don’t stress about setting a date or trying to get things planned. Let things happen naturally, don’t rush into any decisions, talk about things as a couple. Go find a location together and when you fall in love with a place, find a way to make it work because the location of your wedding will be something that you will treasure for the rest of your life. Sometimes the stress of a wedding can really take a toll on a relationship and it should be the exact opposite. Have fun together during the whole process and it should bring you closer and make you both so excited to share your big day with the ones you love.
Planning Resource: I used the Durango Weddings Magazine website to try and figure out the different locations Durango had to offer and to help me pick and choose what vendors fit my style best. It was very helpful reading some of the other stories and seeing what other couples loved about their weddings.
Photographer: Shutterfreek. They are hands down one of the most talented set of photographers I’ve seen. Paul was so laid back and put up with me changing my mind so much and was so helpful. The whole process seemed to be overwhelming but when I would talk to Paul he would calm my nerves and make me so excited about the day. He captured the most amazing pictures that we will cherish and we were so proud to share them with everyone.
