A Fall Wedding in Silverton

From the bride, Jacqueline:  Our inspiration was the beauty of fall in the mountains. It is definitely our favorite season with the warm sunny days and cool nights, and the changing of the aspen leaves to glowing gold. We wanted to bring that feeling into our wedding day while complementing the mountain lodge architecture of our venue, and keeping in mind Silverton’s Victorian/mining history.

Our wedding arch was hand built by my dad, with downed aspen trees that my husband, parents, and I had collected earlier in the summer.

We held our ceremony at 4:00 pm, outside on the deck of the Kendall Mountain lodge, with beautiful mountain views, and golden aspen trees in every direction. We wrote our own ceremony (short and sweet).

We opted to turn on the chairlift on Kendall Mountain, so guests were able to ride up and down for the lovely views and photographs!

Our guest ”book” was a painting by my mom, of an aspen tree and two lovebirds. A Fall Wedding in Silverton, Colorado

Looking back, if I would do anything different, I would have tried to be more decisive along the way. I second-guessed every decision and tried to research every possible option, instead of going with my gut feel. I also might have reconsidered the timing a bit. We wanted a fall wedding so were only engaged for 9 months, which seemed like it would be plenty of time, but I quickly learned that wedding venues and vendors book very far in advance!

My advice would be to ask for and accept help both in the planning process, and the day of! It takes a small army of people to set up a wedding, especially depending on the staff and services provided by the venue. Also try to keep in mind that while the planning may be a challenge, the day will be perfect! Planning can feel like an endless amount of details and decisions, but having help and remembering the big picture can really help with the stress.

I’d also suggest to have at least a day or two to decompress after the wedding before travelling for a honeymoon. Not only were we exhausted after the wedding, we had so many last minute details and packing to do for the wedding, I can’t imagine having to be packed for the honeymoon too! Plus we were able to take day-after wedding photos, which we love.

RECOMMENDED VENDORS

Venue: Town of Silverton, Kendall Mountain Community Center {more info}. The venue was basically a blank slate so it allowed us to completely customize the day. From selecting our vendors, to shopping for all of our table décor, to deciding the setup and flow for the space, we were able to personalize every aspect.

Caterer: Durangormet {more info}. Jimmy catered absolutely delicious food for our wedding, and provided staff and bartenders. During cocktail hour we served appetizers of bacon chipotle shrimp, empanadas, and an avocado salsa & chips. Our dinner was served family style, by each table, which we loved compared to options of a buffet line, or serving individual plates, as it allowed everyone to have food at the same time. Our dinner menu was seasonal, with a locally sourced salad, steak and salmon, with roasted seasonal vegetables and fingerling potatoes, all with a southwest inspiration. We received so many compliments from our guests on both the food and the servers; many people commented that it was the best food they’d ever had at a wedding!

DJ: Mr. Soul Entertainment {more info}. I would definitely recommend Steve; he did a great job DJing our wedding! He was able to organize two setups for us for the ceremony and reception, listened to our song requests as well as general likes/dislikes into account, and helped us with our wedding timeline. His selections definitely helped create a great vibe for the night!

Florals: April’s Gardens  //  China, Flatware, Glasses: Durango Party Rental {more info}  //  Cake: Skillfully Decadent  // Photographer: Caroline Colvin Photography

Honeymoon Location: Three weeks in South Africa! We started in wine country, spent some time in Cape Town, traveled along the Garden Route, and finished our trip on safari in Sabi Sands, at Kirkman’s Kamp. 100% amazing. Trip of a lifetime!

Love at 10,022 Feet

From the bride, Elizabeth: Our destination wedding was centered on the idea of bringing family and friends from Texas and Arizona together to celebrate our love for Colorado and for each other. Our love story began five years prior in Silverton so, Colorado was an obvious destination — we invited our loved ones to join us in the place we first fell in love for a small, intimate wedding in the mountains. The most unforgettable memory was being surrounded by our friends and family sharing tears of joy as we pledged our love to each other with a breathtaking 360-degree mountain view with Mt. Wilson as the backdrop.

Our wedding design comprised a vintage theme with classic elements characterizing Colorado. We incorporated lace, mercury glass, and candle light with subtle shades of blush, ivory, and beige. Destination Wedding at 10,022 Feet in Telluride, Colorado

Each table illumined with mercury glass candle holders, softly lighting the room and providing a graceful romantic feel. The tall floral centerpieces with hints of pine cones and spruce branches gave the rustic room a very stylish, refined wedding atmosphere.

Our wedding favor included sweet caramel apples from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory and S’mores for our Roast and Toast.

ADVICE: Always remind out of town vendors and guests to follow the main highways in Colorado; otherwise, Google Maps may send them for a wild ride across rugged 4-wheel drive mountain passes.
