A Gorgeous Ceremony With the Help of Friends

Photography by Kyla Jackson Photography

From the bride, Lori:
It was the most gorgeous day ever!  A good friend married us, another friend played guitar, we wrote our own vows and a special friend recited her words of marriage wisdom which ended with never go to bed angry or with your pants on.I tried on several dresses in multiple stores that I really liked.  We saved the most expensive store for last and as we were walking in, I commented to my Mom that I could not believe how girls cry when they put on a dress, it’s ridiculous – it’s just a dress.  So we are in the store and I walk out with a Melissa Sweet gown, my mom takes one look and starts crying, then I start to bawl.  I’ve now learned that when you find that dress, it’s such an emotional moment you can’t help but cry.
We had over 100 out-of-town guests arrive in Durango so we planned a few activities including a group float down the Animas River.  We had over 40 tubes snaking down the river through town; it was so much fun!
I hate to waste flowers, so I wanted to use something that would not get thrown away, but instead taken home and enjoyed – succulents were the perfect solution.
I laughed so much I did not want the day to ever end!

GIVING BACK
Instead of a honeymoon, we are spending two weeks with Engineers Without Borders in Ecuador.

Small & Quaint by the San Juan River

From the bride, Katie:
It started pouring down rain about two hours before the ceremony, but the minute I walked out to see my dad, the clouds broke and it turned out to be a gorgeous evening. As bagpipes played, we walked down the grass aisle full of family and friends.  We stood  along the San Juan River under an arbor my Aunt made.  My cousin sang a beautiful song and my brother read a family prayer that was one of my grandmother’s favorites.  We had a small and quaint reception.  People danced from the minute we walked in until 12:30 in the morning.  Bill and I couldn’t have felt more loved with all of the wonderful friends and family we had around us!  We had the best day of our lives!

MEMORABLE MOMENT
There was something magical about the sound of bagpipes playing Highland Cathedral; it literally hit me in the soul.

FAVORITE DETAIL
My cousin brought pashminas (in our wedding colors) from Cambodia for all the women to wear at the wedding. They were a welcome gift on the chilly evening.

A Touching Ceremony

Photography by Kyla Jackson Photography

From the bride, Colleen:
Our outdoor wedding was beautiful, the weather was ideal, and all the pieces of the day were perfect!
We had a dessert table that consisted of assorted mini cheesecakes, an array of dessert bars, and a variety of chocolate-dipped cherries and strawberries.  The cutest ones were the strawberries that looked like a bride and groom, which were “wearing” a tuxedo and a wedding gown!  In lieu of favors, we had dessert boxes personalized with our names and wedding date so guests could take the leftover desserts home with them.Instead of traditional table numbers, we did months of the year. Since our beloved dogs couldn’t be there that day, we took photos of them dressed in various themed costumes, and had a talented friend photoshop different backgrounds into the pictures that coordinated with each  month.  They were hilarious and everyone loved them!

PERSONAL TOUCH
We had framed photos of our parents and our four sets of grandparents on their wedding days.  We thought it was a nice way to honor those who were no longer with us, and also a way for those who just couldn’t make the trip to be there with us on our special day.
