Alyssa & Clay | August 30th | Purgatory Resort

From the bride: I have lived in Farmington most of my life, but I always knew I would get married in Durango.

Our dachshund wore a wedding dress made from scraps of my reception dress.

Our theme/color palette was peacock. Everything was color-coordinated, font-coordinated, and theme-coordinated. We made sure there was a personal touch on literally everything.

My bridesmaids all wore different colored dresses that fell in the peacock theme: royal purple, royal blue, teal, royal pink, deep red, silver, royal green, and my maid of honor wore a dress that was literally a peacock feather print.

The groomsmen wore coordinating ties.

My flower girls wore the most adorable dresses ever.  They consisted of tulle tutu’s in peacock colors.  They also wore headbands with large purple flowers.

Just as I was finishing getting ready, it began to rain! It POURED.  While part of me was panicking, the other half was elated because I truly believe the superstition that if it rains on your wedding day you will have a long, happy marriage!  Just as I stepped out of the car at the ceremony site the rain cleared and the clouds revealed the beautiful sun.  Everything was wet and the light caught the dew on all of the décor.  My husband-to-be was at the end of the aisle standing in a beam of sun.  The clouds literally cleared and the sun shone on my true love.  It was like a fairytale!

Our ceremony took place at Boyce Meadows at Purgatory Resort.  The scenery was STUNNING.  I would absolutely recommend this site if your heart longs for peace, beauty, and fresh air.

Our officiant was my grandfather.  He made the ceremony so special and it’s a memory I will never forget.

Our reception took place at Purgy’s.  It was the perfect venue for our 140+ guests. The view of the mountains from the wall of windows is beautiful.

We had Honeyville whipped honeys for our gifts.  This brought a local flaire to our wedding and our guests LOVED the variety of flavors and taste of the honey.  They also came in sizes small enough to qualify as an eligible “liquid” for flights.

We designed labels to put on top of the Honeyville jars that had our names and wedding date and then tied ribbon around them.  It was the perfect touch and everyone loved them!

We had a GORGEOUS peacock cake. It was multi-tiered with each tier a different color applicable to our peacock color theme.  On top were beautifully sculpted peacocks-one male and one female representing me and Clay.  Their tail feathers draped down the edges.

We designed an activity sheet that was placed at every place setting, which gave our guests a chance to write us special messages. We collected them all and now have them in a keepsake album!

My advice: Focus more on your relationship than your wedding.  Wedding planning can put unnecessary stress on your relationship.  Always remember the reason you are planning the wedding in the first place and that is your love.  Also, don’t go into debt over your wedding!
